Home Stay shared by Kelsey Greer

Shared by Kelsey Greer: Saturday, July 18: Today, I have spent the day with my new friend Kazuha Aoki. I am staying with her family and have had a great time! Last night, we had a wonderful dinner with a plethora of Japanese dishes prepared by Kazuha’sloving mother. I was even visited by one of Kazuha’s friends from another high school. I also spent the night with Yuki, another new friend of mine. We stayed up until 2:30 in the morning sharing our similarities and differences. We watched Harry Potter and High School Musical. We snacked on junk food and even played with each other’s hair. Mine is so different, blond and curly; it was humorous.
When I woke up this morning, I was refreshed because I slept so well on our futon palates. We had a delicious breakfast, and then took the monorail to the shopping mall. There, Yuki, Kazuha, and I met up with Erika, and we took pictures in a customizable booth called Purikura. It was so much fun! Then we went shopping, and I saw some extremely cute clothes! Then we took the J-R Train to Kyoto and visited Kiyomizu Temple. We walked, literally, three miles to the temple! On the way, we stopped for Kakigori, a Japanese style snow cone. When we got to the temple, we wished for good love and participated in the traditional temple rituals.
On our way back to the station, we went on a search for Melon Soda, my new favorite Japanese drink. Surprisingly, it is hard to find. We got back to Kazuha’s apartment and had dinner. Then we did karaoke, which was my favorite. Afterwards, we enjoyed the onsen, hot spring. I have had a great time and look forward to spending the rest of my time with Kazuha and friends.
